For a manufacturing systems class, I have had students make wooden crates using 1x 6s or 1x8s and 2x4s ripped to 1/4 wide for the slats. A nail gun with 1/4 x 1" crown staples, nails the slats to the ends. To make these a hot seller, I had order forms for specialized graphics or words on the ends with a Laser Engraver. You could also screen print the end with a logo. The best part for a smaller crate is the materials cost are less than $2.25 and can sell for $7. You can almost not mess up enough pieces to not make a profit. Check out my social media #sherandoteched or #vteea to see this year's progress. You can also email me at vickersr@fcpski12.net and I'll be glad to send you pictures and or other information.
